Happy Sunday, One of the things that has struck me as a pastor is Christ's line to his disciples that "the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few." Jesus is bemoaning that so many people want to go deeper in their relationship with God, yet there is no one to teach them. His last words to us on earth were a command to go and make disciples of all nations. It was to send out laborers into the harvest. He was asking for help. Well, I am excited to announce that help has arrived! This week we welcome to Rome, Georgia, our two new FOCUS missionaries, Jake and Brenda Wieneke, and their four children. They will be serving at our parish for at least the next three years, and during that time they will be helping to start bible studies, form small groups, and teach people to be disciples of Jesus Christ. They will be reaching out to those who have never heard the Gospel before and helping us cradle Catholics to reignite our own faith. It's always a difficult thing to pick up and start as a new family in a new town, so please help me to welcome the Wienekes to their new home and parish. And let us thank God for sending us more laborers to work in his vineyard! God Love You, Fr. Jesús se lamenta de que tantas personas quieran profundizar en su relación con Dios, pero no hay nadie que les enseñe. Sus últimas palabras para nosotros en la tierra fueron una orden: ir y hacer discípulos de todas las naciones. Era enviar obreros a la cosecha. Él estaba pidiendo ayuda. Bueno, ¡estoy emocionado de anunciar que la ayuda ha llegado! Esta semana damos la bienvenida a Rome, Georgia, a nuestros dos nuevos misioneros de FOCUS, Jake y Brenda Wieneke, y sus cuatro hijos. Estarán sirviendo en nuestra parroquia durante al menos los próximos tres años, y durante ese tiempo ayudarán a iniciar estudios bíblicos, formar grupos pequeños y enseñar a las personas a ser discípulos de Jesucristo. Happy Sunday, "At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you." When the Creator of the universe asks what you want, you better have a good answer! King Solomon asks for wisdom or a discerning heart, and it says this pleased God. What is it that we really desire of the Lord? Would it also please God? One of the "twists" of Christianity is that our deepest desires are not annoying to God or something to be overcome, but actually they please God. The problem is we usually settle for things that are less than our deepest desires. “It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” God Love You, Fr. Paul JMJ ***** Feliz domingo, "En Gabaón el Señor se apareció a Salomón durante la noche en un sueño y Dios le dijo: «Pídeme lo que quieras que te dé.»" Cuando el Creador del universo te pregunta qué quieres, ¡más vale tener una buena respuesta! El rey Salomón pide sabiduría, un corazón capaz de discernir, y la Escritura dice que esto agradó a Dios. ¿Qué es lo que realmente deseamos del Señor? ¿También eso agradaría a Dios? Uno de los "giros" del cristianismo es que nuestros deseos más profundos no son una molestia para Dios ni algo que debamos superar; al contrario, le agradan. El problema es que con demasiada frecuencia nos conformamos con cosas que están por debajo de nuestros deseos más profundos.  "Parece que nuestro Señor considera que nuestros deseos no son demasiado fuertes, sino demasiado débiles. Somos criaturas a medias, entreteniéndonos con la bebida, el sexo y la ambición, cuando se nos ofrece una alegría infinita; como un niño ignorante que prefiere seguir haciendo pasteles de barro en un barrio miserable porque no puede imaginar lo que significa la oferta de unas vacaciones junto al mar. Happy Sunday, Witnesses say that after her death, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha's emaciated face changed color and became like that of a healthy child. The lines of suffering, even the pockmarks from smallpox, disappeared, and the touch of a smile came upon her lips. A glimpse of how we will see her on the other side of the veil. She lived, suffered, and died a hundred years before the birth of George Washington, and she became the first Native American canonized a saint. Her body, only after death, showed what God saw within her. Christ says that after this world has broken us down into wrinkles, dirt, dust, and ash, that "the righteous will shine like the sun." This is the genius behind stained glass windows in churches that fill the saints with the light of the sun. Although our bodies may not physically change when we are laid to rest someday, our souls will shine like the sun if we hold tight to Christ throughout our lives. “And we, with our unveiled faces reflecting like mirrors the brightness of the Lord, all grow brighter and brighter as we are turned into the image that we reflect; this is the work of the Lord Who is Spirit.” God Love You, Fr. Happy Sunday, I received a text from a friend recently that said, "Hey, I think you might have been right about me needing to have a relationship with God. I started praying recently, and I think it is really helping." I was a little shocked to hear this. For years this friend had been very closed off to Christianity and prayer. In fact, it had been so long since we had talked about it that I didn't even know what conversation he was referring to. He said it was something we discussed years ago. God says in the first reading this weekend, "Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void." We may plant seeds sometimes and think to ourselves, "this will never grow" or that "I failed," but God's word is never fruitless. It may take years before we see the fruits or we may not see them in or lifetime but we can be assured that the fruit will come. That means we must be bold in sharing the Word of God and trust that if we continue planting, God will continue growing. God Love You, Fr. Paul JMJ ***** Feliz domingo, Hace poco recibí un mensaje de texto de un amigo que decía: "Oye, creo que tenías razón sobre que necesito tener una relación con Dios. Empecé a orar hace poco y creo que me está ayudando mucho". Me sorprendió un poco escuchar esto. Durante años, este amigo se había mostrado muy cerrado al cristianismo y a la oración. De hecho, hacía tanto tiempo que no hablábamos del tema que ni siquiera sabía a qué conversación se refería. Dijo que era algo que habíamos comentado hacía años. Dios dice en la primera lectura de este fin de semana: " Así como del cielo descienden la lluvia y la nieve, y no vuelven allá sin haber regado la tierra, haciéndola fértil y productiva, dando semilla al que siembra y pan al que come, así será mi palabra que sale de mi boca; mi palabra no volverá a mí vacía". A veces sembramos semillas y pensamos: «Esto nunca crecerá» o «He fracasado», pero la Palabra de Dios nunca es estéril. Puede que pasen años antes de que veamos los frutos, o que no los veamos en nuestra vida, pero podemos tener la seguridad de que llegarán. Esto significa que debemos ser valientes al compartir la Palabra de Dios y confiar en que, si seguimos sembrando, Dios seguirá haciendo crecer la semilla. Dios te ama, P. Paul JMJ

Happy 4th of July! 250 years ago, 56 men signed a piece of paper declaring their allegiance to a new nation and their intention to leave the British Empire. The result would be the burning of their estates, the imprisonment of their families, and they themselves being put to death for treason. However, it is only treason if you lose! This was a great act of faith on their part, and the result was a new nation. What could be the result of you making a similar act of faith in God? Risking everything you have to follow after Him. I am certain it would be a new heart, a new relationship, a new family, and a new life. Every Sunday after the homily, we profess the Creed and, like the founding fathers, "we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." As we enter into this 250th year of Independence, may we as a country repent of our many sins, heal from our many wounds, give thanks for our many blessings, and follow Christ wherever He may lead us. Happy Sunday, I had the opportunity to take a group of our girls last week to Nashville on a "nun run" for an opportunity to spend a day in the life of the Dominican sisters. Our parish has a long history with the Dominican order, and it was beautiful to see so many young women open to God, calling them to religious life. I also had the opportunity to visit with one of our parishioners in Nashville, for whom we have been praying. Peyton has been battling cancer in the midst of being a new mom and wife (and finishing med school!). She said she can feel all of our prayers and is incredibly grateful. Please keep her, Matt, and baby Leo in your prayers as they continue on this journey. Finally, thank you so much to everyone who wished me a happy birthday and came to the party. I felt very loved that day, and I am so grateful for this parish community. I will be praying in thanksgiving for you all as I enjoy being out this week on vacation. Nuestra parroquia tiene una larga historia con la orden dominica, y fue hermoso ver a tantas mujeres jóvenes abiertas a Dios, quien las llama a la vida religiosa. También tuve la oportunidad de visitar a una de nuestras feligresas en Nashville, por quien hemos estado orando. Peyton ha estado luchando contra el cáncer mientras es madre primeriza y esposa (¡y termina la escuela de medicina!). Ella dijo que puede sentir todas nuestras oraciones y está increíblemente agradecida. Por favor, mantengan a ella, a Matt y al bebé Leo en sus oraciones mientras continúan en este camino. Happy Father's Day! It is hard to discern sometimes the tone of a text. When she said "good night!" did she mean "go away!" or did she mean "sweet dreams"? When he said "okay," was it because he was annoyed at me, or was he just being succinct? That is oftentimes the case in the Gospel as well. I think that sometimes we miss the subtle grin or warm demeanor of Jesus as he speaks the words of the Father. "Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." The disciples are worried about dying, and Jesus says, "Don't worry, boys, God takes care of even the birds!" Is it not like a good father to settle our worries sometimes with a little humor? He knows that worrying about it will not help them, so he wants to bring peace to their hearts. I hope that your earthly father has brought peace to your heart throughout your life, but even if he hasn't, you have a Father in heaven who is longing to do so. May you know the love and peace of God the Father this day. God Love You, Fr. Paul JMJ ***** ¡Feliz Día del Padre! A veces es difícil discernir el tono de un mensaje. Cuando dijo "¡buenas noches!", ¿quiso decir "¡vete!" o "dulces sueños"? Cuando dijo "de acuerdo", ¿fue porque estaba molesto conmigo o simplemente estaba siendo breve? Eso suele ocurrir también en los Evangelios. Creo que a veces pasamos por alto la sutil sonrisa o la cálida actitud de Jesús al pronunciar las palabras del Padre. ¿Acaso no se venden dos gorriones por una moneda pequeña? Sin embargo, ni uno solo de ellos cae al suelo sin que tu Padre lo sepa. Incluso todos los cabellos de tu cabeza están contados. Así que no temas; tú vales mucho más que muchos gorriones. Los discípulos están preocupados por la muerte, y Jesús les dice: «¡No se preocupen, muchachos! ¡Dios cuida hasta de los pájaros!». ¿Acaso no es propio de un buen padre calmar nuestras preocupaciones con un poco de humor? Él sabe que preocuparse no les ayudará, así que quiere traer paz a sus corazones. Espero que tu padre terrenal te haya brindado paz a lo largo de tu vida, pero incluso si no lo ha hecho, tienes un Padre celestial que anhela hacerlo. Happy Sunday, I was reading a study recently about how babies can, at times, adapt their heart rate to match the rhythmic shift of their mother's breathing and heartbeat, creating a temporary state of synchronization. The result of these two hearts beating in unison is a calm baby and a happy mother. Ahead of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Bishops of the United States have consecrated the country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. What does that mean? It means that we are trying to sync the beat of our own hearts with that of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. So that our families, country, and lives might be lived in unison with the love of God. The result? Peace and happiness. "Lord Jesus, let my heart never rest until it finds You, who are its center, its love, and its happiness...Place my weak heart in your own divine heart, continually under your protection and guidance, so that I may persevere in doing good and in fleeing evil until my last breath. Paul JMJ ***** Feliz domingo, Hace poco leí un estudio sobre cómo los bebés pueden, en ocasiones, adaptar su ritmo cardíaco al ritmo de la respiración y los latidos del corazón de su madre, creando una sincronización temporal. El resultado de estos dos corazones latiendo al unísono es un bebé tranquilo y una madre feliz. En vísperas del 250 aniversario de la firma de la Declaración de Independencia, los obispos de Estados Unidos consagraron el país al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. ¿Qué significa esto? Significa que buscamos armonizar nuestros corazones con el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, para que nuestras familias, nuestro país y nuestras vidas se vivan en comunión con el amor de Dios. ¿El resultado? Paz y felicidad.  Señor Jesús, que mi corazón nunca descanse hasta que te encuentre a Ti, que eres su centro, su amor y su felicidad... Happy Sunday, “When the bee has gathered the dew of heaven and the earth’s sweetest nectar from the flowers, it turns it into honey, then hastens to its hive. In the same way, the priest, having taken from the altar the Son of God (who is as the dew from heaven, and true son of Mary, flower of our humanity), gives him to you as delicious food.” This past weekend, the Archbishop ordained 4 more men to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Once again, we have men who have given up wives, families, and careers so that they can bring us the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Pray for them as they begin this journey, and pray that God may increase your love for the Eucharist. Lastly, consider becoming an adoration guardian. It only costs you one hour a week, and your prayer life will never be the same. God Love You, Fr. Así también, el sacerdote, tomando del altar al Hijo de Dios (quien como el rocío del cielo, y verdadero hijo de María, flor de nuestra humanidad), lo ofrece a ustedes como alimento delicioso.» El pasado fin de semana, el Arzobispo ordenó a cuatro hombres más al sacerdocio en la Arquidiócesis de Atlanta. Una vez más, tenemos hombres que han renunciado a sus esposas, familias y carreras para traernos el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Jesucristo. Oren por ellos al comenzar este camino y pidan a Dios que aumente su amor por la Eucaristía. Por último, considera la posibilidad de convertirte en guardián de la adoración eucarística.
